EPIC-FU recently posted a very interesting show in which it asked film makers what they think of the Internet and its effect on the film industry.
I found this to be a very interesting take on some of the opinions of film makers. It is easy to see from the comments that the new breed of film makers are reviling in the freedom and creativity of the internet, while the older brethren acknowledge it but appear displaced.
I feel many of the older film makers are stressed from the fact that some very good films are being made on much lower budgets . As the tools are cheaper and the internet makes doing preproduction and self distribution cheaper etc. The barrier to entry in making a good film has fallen. Competition has gone up and profitability has gone down. More film worth watching are coming out but there is less money to split between them.
Still, this trend, in my opinion, would mainly be in Arthouse and Indy films. These films, I would expect, are a day to day bread winner for, not so high profile, actors and producers.
Times are a changing.
